Jobs Growth Wales+ (JGW+) is a Welsh Government–funded programme designed to give 16–19-year-olds the opportunity to build confidence, gain skills, and take their next steps into training, apprenticeships, or employment.
What is JGW+?
JGW+ is a flexible programme with three pathways:
- Engagement – for young people who are unsure of their next step. It offers tasters of different careers, mentoring, and confidence-building activities.
- Advancement – for those who already have a career idea but need skills, qualifications, or work placements to move forward.
- Employment – for learners ready to go directly into a paid job, with support for applications, interviews, and settling into work.
- This flexibility ensures your child is matched to the right level of support, depending on their needs and ambitions.
JGW+ and Benefits
For benefit purposes, enrolling on JGW+ is recognised as being in full-time education or training. This means:
- Parents or carers may still be able to claim Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits/Universal Credit for their child while they are on JGW+, as long as all other eligibility conditions are met.
- The learner will also receive a weekly training allowance (up to around £60 per week on the Engagement and Advancement pathways).
- This provides families with reassurance that JGW+ supports both financial stability and progression.
