An apprenticeship is an opportunity to earn while you learn, combining real work with training to gain qualifications, skills, and experience directly related to your job role. Apprenticeships are available across a wide range of industries and levels, making them a flexible route for both new entrants and those looking to upskill.
Who Can Apply?
You could be eligible if you are:
- Aged 16 or over and living in Wales.
- Employed for at least 16 hours per week in a role linked to the apprenticeship.
- Paid at least the National Minimum Wage (many employers pay more).
- Not in full-time education.
- Legally able to live and work in the UK, and meeting residency criteria.
Graduates can also apply, provided the apprenticeship covers new skills or a different occupational area from their degree.
Why Choose an Apprenticeship?
- Earn while you learn: You’ll receive a wage while working towards your qualification.
- Career-focused: All training links directly to your job role, ensuring your learning is relevant and applied.
- Recognised qualifications: Apprenticeships include nationally recognised qualifications valued by employers.
- Progression: Apprenticeships are available from Level 2 (Foundation) through to Level 5 (Higher), with clear progression routes.
- Flexible for your needs: Apprenticeships support both new career entrants and existing staff who want to develop their skills.
What You’ll Gain
- Practical skills that you can use immediately in your job.
- Professional knowledge to help you understand best practice and sector standards.
- Support with literacy, numeracy, or digital skills if you need it, through Essential Skills Wales.
- One-to-one guidance from your assessor/trainer, ensuring your learning is tailored and supported.
- Confidence and credibility in your role, supported by qualifications recognised across Wales and the UK.
Assessment and What to Expect
- Workplace-based evidence: Your progress is assessed through real tasks and responsibilities in your role.
- Portfolio of evidence: You’ll build a collection of documents, reflections, and examples of your work.
- Observations and discussions: Assessors will visit your workplace to observe practice and discuss your learning.
- Feedback and targets: You’ll receive clear feedback to help you progress and achieve your qualification.
