Introduction

The Level 3 Apprenticeship in Learning and Development is designed for individuals who are employed in roles where they support, deliver, or manage learning in the workplace. It is suited to trainers, mentors, facilitators, or those with responsibility for planning, delivering, and evaluating training and professional development.

This apprenticeship develops the knowledge and skills needed to identify learning needs, design and deliver training programmes, and support others to achieve their potential. It prepares learners to play a central role in ensuring workforce development and continuous improvement across a wide range of industries.

Requirements

Assessment and What to Expect

  • Workplace-based assessment: All evidence is drawn from real training and development activity in the learner’s workplace.

  • Direct observations: Assessors observe learners planning and delivering training or coaching sessions.

  • Portfolio of evidence: Learners compile plans, session records, learner feedback, and reflective accounts.

  • Professional discussions: Structured discussions to demonstrate knowledge of learning theories, methods, and organisational needs.

  • Knowledge assignments: Written tasks on topics such as equality in learning, assessment methods, and evaluation of training.

Learners will work closely with their assessor, who will provide support, feedback, and guidance in linking practice to the qualification requirements.

Outcomes

On successful completion, learners will:

  • Be equipped to work effectively in Learning and Development roles such as Trainer, Learning Facilitator, Workplace Coach, or Mentor.

  • Gain recognised skills in delivering training, assessing learning, and supporting professional growth in others.

  • Be able to progress into advanced roles, such as Senior Trainer, Assessor, or Learning and Development Manager, or continue study at higher levels in management or education.
